Description:
Pulverized fuels, so called alternative reducing agents (ARA) are injected into the raceway of the blast furnace to increasing the efficiency. Pulverized coal is currently the most common ARA, due to a lack of experimental procedures for the evaluation of alternative ARAs. In cooperation between the K1-MET GmbH and TU Wien, a new test reactor for testing ARAs is built. The reactor will be used to screen potential ARAs and to derive conversion rates, which are then used as input parameters for simulations.
A balancing tool for the operation of this reactor will be developed to determine the necessary test parameters (mass flows, heating power e.g.) for the desired experimental conditions. The tool will be validated with data generated during the start up of the reactor. Comparing the measured data with the predicted data by the balancing tool will point out deviation from the planned operation conditions. Furthermore, an analysis of the operational costs due to consumed operating materials is planned.
The aim of this work is to develop and validate a balancing tool for the combustion reactor. Supporting individual experimental runs will provide the necessary understanding of the experimental rig.
