Multiphase CFD Simulation of Aerosol Formation and Transport
Abstract
The accurate description of aerosol formation and transport processes is linked to the detailed knowledge of the evolution of particle sizes in
the aerosol. In order to afford to simulate such effects by means of computational fluid dynamics, population balance equations are used
which allow to predict the development of the individual particles over a certain period of time on the basis of various models.

- Coalescence
- Droplet Break-Up
- Condensation
In this work, an approach to an implementation of a population balance equation (PBE) in OpenFoam will be explored. By means of this PBE, the distribution of particles within an e-cigarette will be simulated to gain precise knowledge about the effect of these substances on the human body.
